For the second year in a row, Adela Durham has been selected as the Vernon High School Staff Member of the Year, and this is her first year as the VHS Attendance Clerk. When she was awarded the honor last year, she was the VHS Receptionist, a position she held for one year.
Before joining the staff at VHS, Adela worked as a paraprofessional at the Vernon Middle School for two years.
In her role as Attendance Clerk at VHS, Adela communicates with parents, students, and staff providing information on a variety of attendance issues.
“I maintain a variety of attendance records and files for the purpose of providing reliable information in compliance with district policies,” Adela said. “I prepare a variety of reports and process doctor’s notes and parent’s notes.”
While she may have moved to a new position this year, she is very happy to still be at VHS and in the school office. And, there are several reasons for that happiness.
“I enjoy my co-workers and their sense of humor,” she said. “And, I enjoy getting to be a part of my son’s day and being an active supporter of each student’s activities.”
Adela and her husband, Curtis, have two sons – Ashton, a VHS grad who is playing baseball on scholarship at Southeastern Oklahoma Christian University, and Cross, a junior at VHS.
A native of Crowell and graduate of Crowell High School, Adela also attended Vernon College. Her hobbies include being her sons’ number one fan, cheering them on at their events, and taking leisurely walks in the evening.
