Don't forget -- Friday is the last day to register for the 2026 Champs Volleyball camp.

Our 1st grade students had fun watching a science experiment this afternoon showing the energy made when Mentos is put into a bottle of soda. https://youtu.be/zjnA6_rbjCU
If you want something to munch on while waiting for the Santa Rosa Parade to start rolling through downtown tomorrow afternoon be sure and stop by the Vernon ISD Administration Building on the north side of the Wilbarger County Courthouse and grab some freshly popped popcorn!! We'll be serving from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.!!

On April 9, as part of Ms. Owen's Kindergarten Gifted and Talented project GT students placed eggs in an incubator and monitored their development. On May 1 the chicks hatched and students held the chicks on May 7. Throughout the process, the students researched and practiced "candling," a method used to observe the growth of the embryo inside the egg. To stay organized, Ms. Owen helped the students create a calendar to track the number of days the eggs were in the incubator, as well as the projected hatch date. The class also kept a journal and recorded observations, reflections, and new learning as the students followed the exciting journey from egg to chick!

McCord is looking forward to hosting Donuts with Dads on Wednesday.

Students in our first grade Gifted & Talented Program have been working a research project on their favorite wild animal. They presented their completed project to parents and their classmates yesterday. Here's a link to the video: https://youtu.be/8cELjrDvYyA

For Teacher Appreciation Week a few of our McCord students were asked a question about their teacher. Check out these cute answers.

Today, McCord faculty and staff celebrated School Principals' Day, and honored their principal, Dr. Rusti Blount, with a table full of goodies for all to enjoy.

On the Vernon ISD 2025-26 school calendar May 4 is an inclement weather day, however we do not need to use the day to make up time missed, so all campuses and offices will be closed on Monday. We will resume our regular schedules at all campuses and offices on Tuesday, May 5. We hope all of our students, their families and our staff enjoy their 3-day weekend.

May 1st is School Principals' Day and Vernon ISD is blessed to have some amazing educators leading our campuses. We can't thank them enough for all they do for the students and teachers they are responsible for at their individual campuses.

Today is School Lunch Hero Day as we celebrate our outstanding food service workers. Vernon ISD has some amazing cafeteria ladies who work hard to provide our students with a good breakfast and lunch. Sometimes these ladies make a bigger impact on our students than they will ever know. We just want to give a big THANK YOU to our wonderful food service workers.

Next week (May 4-8) is Teacher Appreciation Week and Vernon High School is making it a dress up week as a way students can show appreciation for their teachers and have a little fun. The district liked the idea so much we decided to share it with all campuses in case some of their students wanted to join in on the fun. We have some amazing teachers at all of campuses, and each one of them is very much appreciated for all they do for our students.

Just a few more scenes from the Vernon ISD All-Star Olympics that was held Friday. Students from Vernon, Crowell and Quanah ISDs participated in the fun event. Several VHS and VMS athletes acted as buddies for the contestants. A big THANK YOU to the Vernon Boys & Girls Club for hosting the event again this year.
