
Due to students being out of school yesterday, Nov. 11, Vernon High School held its Veterans Day Assembly today. Each branch of the service was recognized and Eric Robledo, a U.S. Army Veteran, was the guest speaker.

This morning, Vernon High School will be hosting a Veteran's Day Assembly at 10:15 a.m. in Fulton Gym. It is open to the public, so if you know a Veteran or a current Service Member encourage them to attend!

There were 21 members of the VHS tennis team who earned District 6-4A Academic All-District honors. They were: Alyssa Andara; Kaitlyn Beam; Lily Beam; Sarah Black; Hunter Boatman; Arianna Castellanos; Will Castleberry; Maddi Delaune; Mason Ford; Harley Fulford; Hannah Jones; Sriram Kadiyala; Claire Mayo; Jonathan Medina; Atticus Mixson; Mariana Ortega; Emily Rodriguez; Ryne Sanders; Courtney Saylor; Nevan Schur; and Addie Soucy.

On Saturday, auditions for the ATSSB Region 7 North Zone All-District Band were held in Wichita Falls and Roarin' Lion Band member Rodrigo Olivas earned 4th chair Clarinet in the Symphonic Band. To audition, students prepared two pieces of music and several scales to play for a panel of judges. Rodrigo will perform with the All-District Symphonic Band during a concert on Dec. 14.


The Lions wrapped up the regular season Friday night with a 29-12 loss to Peaster. Vernon has a record of 7-3 heading into the playoffs. Receiving Offensive MVP honors from last week's game is offensive lineman Ethan Wilkinson, while Defensive MVP is Javi Lopez, who recorded 14 tackles, including 2 tackles for loss. Ty Scott collected 5.5 tackles and had a pass breakup to earn the Ball Hawk Award. The Big Stick Award goes to Tyce Payne who had 1 stack and 6.5 tackles. Co-Lion Heart Award recipients are Landon Bynum and Adrain Felton. Landon had 4 tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss, and Adrain had 6 tackles, 1 sack and 1 pressure.

The football regular season came to end last night, but the Lions' season continues, as Vernon is heading into the playoffs as the No. 3 seed from District 4-3A, D1. Our opponent in the bi-district round of the playoffs is Sweetwater. The Mustangs finished as the No. 2 seed in District 3-3A, D1. The bi-district clash is set for 7 p.m., Friday, in Graham. Lions -- go claim that gold ball!!!


Our Lions close out the 2024 regular season at home tonight as they host Peaster in a BIG District 4-3A, D 1 game. The winner will go into the playoffs as the No. 2 seed, while the loser will go in as the No. 3 seed. It also Senior Recognition Night for our football team, cross country team, cheerleaders, drill team and band. The senior ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. Military veterans will also be honored just prior to the playing of the National Anthem. It's a 3-day weekend coming up for our VISD students, as they are out of school on Nov. 11 for a teacher professional development day. Classes will begin on our regular schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Two members of the VHS Class of 2024, Preston Overby and Danielle Parker, returned for a visit today after graduating from U.S. Marine Corp boot camp last week. Preston and Danielle were here with their Marine recruiter. Both have a few more days of leave before heading to their Military Occupational Specialty school, where they will spend 30 days.






Vernon ISD will be honoring our local veterans at the football Friday night. We have asked four veterans to raise the United States and Texas Flags, and we are inviting Armed Forces veterans to join them at the flagpoles.


November is Diabetes Awareness Month and to show support for our district students and staff who live with diabetes, VISD is encouraging all students and staff to wear blue every Thursday of the month.


There will be a runoff between Jarrod David and Kyle Echols for Place 3 on the VISD school board. No candidate received a majority of the votes. Here are the vote totals:

We had 12 Lion tennis players earn District 6-4A All-District honors based on their performance during the fall Team Tennis season. The Lions claimed the district championship, along with bi-district, area and regional semifinals titles before seeing their season end in the regional finals. Congratulations on your district honors and accomplishments!! We're proud of you!!
