There has been a change to our Lady Lions' softball schedule. They will be hosting Henrietta on Friday, instead of Saturday, which was originally scheduled. Varsity game time will be 5 p.m., Friday. It will be Senior Recognition Night, with those activities set to start at 4:15 p.m. There have been no changes to the Lions' baseball schedule for the week.

Our lifeskill students will be participating in their very own All-Star Olympics that will be held Monday, April 29. There will be 17 McCord/VES students, 10 VMS students and 6 VHS students participating in the event.
During Opening Ceremonies, our athletes will be led around the track by the Roarin' Lion Band. An awards ceremony with pizza will be held at the conclusion of all the events. Anyone wishing to make a donation to the event may take the donation to school principals or to Jana Neely at Central. Checks need to be made out to VISD-Vernon Olympics.
Our students will also compete in another All-Star Olympics on May 2, in Altus.

So far this school year VHS seniors have covered 10 landmark court cases in their Government class. Last week, the students tested on the cases by drawing their knowledge of the court cases in shaving cream. Teacher Brett White said it was pretty cool to see their "vision" of the case.

Last week, our medical assistant students did a research project on MA jobs anywhere in the world. In their research they included information about salary, housing and utilities, accommodations such as transportation, food, and details about their job description/area of focus. CNA/MA instructor Candace Adams then incorporated their research into a game of Life using their careers, salary and housing information. The point of this was to show them the reality of the field of healthcare and the fact that you DON’T have to have a college degree (although it is encouraged) to be able to make a living and live LIFE! Our winner was Litzy Ayala who worked as an MA doing a travel gig in Seattle, WA and lived in a hotel while working. She finished out her “life” with $1.6 million!

There will be no JV game, and the varsity game has been pushed back to a 7 p.m. start. The Lions will also be in Bowie taking on the Jackrabbits in District 7-3A action. The VHS Drama Department will present their One-Act Play "1984" in two performances for the general public. The first performance will be tonight at 6:30 p.m., at the Wilbarger Auditorium, which recently installed new stage lights. The second performance will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday at the VHS Cafeteria. In support of Vernon's biggest Lion fan, VHS is providing a way for all students and staff to attend the funeral of our beloved Kathy Burnett. Students and teachers will follow a pep rally schedule and will be released at 2:40 pm on Friday. If you, as a parent, plan for your child to attend, your student will need to be signed out in the office to be released to the services. Vernon High School will forever hold Kathy in our hearts and will keep the family in our thoughts and prayers during this most difficult of times. We will always remember her unwavering support and loyalty to our students and forever be thankful for the impact she made on so many young lives. Parents can begin calling tomorrow to give permission for their students to be released at 2:40 on Friday.

Due to the rainouts on Tuesday and the wet field conditions today, Vernon's District 7-3A baseball and softball home games against Jacksboro will be played this evening in Holliday. Fans going to the games are advised to park in the parking lots by the gym or the football field and walk to the fields. Parking WILL NOT be allowed on Eagle Drive, the narrow road that runs in front of the new baseball and softball fields, due to water standing in the ditches.

On Tuesday, students in Mr. Brett White's AP World History class reenacted the painting of the Sistine Chapel. Students were given duct tape to tape their paper to the underside of their desk and painted the "Creation of Adam" by Michelangelo. Painting the ceiling required Michelangelo to lay high above the ground on a scaffold. Mr. White said this was the best they could do, but he thought the students gained a new level of appreciation for both the artwork and the artist.
