Our Roarin' Lion Band competed in the UIL Area Marching Contest Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls and received a Division 2 (Excellent) rating from the 3 judges. Band Director Jeremiah Hastings said he, assistant band director Matthew Golden and color guard sponsor Audrey Hastings are proud of the students and the hard work they put in this season. We agree!! We are so proud of the band and their directors. They've showed improvement every time they've taken the field and we know the future is very bright for our band program!!





FFA students showed their "true colors" last week as their official FFA jackets arrived. The jackets arrived just in time for the Leadership Development Event competitions. Some of our FFA students are competing in an invitational meet today at Tarleton State University, and will compete in another invitational meet in City View on Oct. 31, which will lead into the District contest set for Nov. 7 at Midwestern State University.

Due to weather concerns for Friday night's Vernon-Bowie football game, the schools have agreed to move the game to Thursday. Kickoff is still set for 7 p.m., at Jackrabbit Stadium. However, due to that move, adjustments had to be made to other junior high and high school sports schedules. Please check the information below. The high school volleyball games had to remain on Friday, due to UIL's rule of one game per week. Athletic events that are played after school hours on Friday are considered to be on the weekend.


Vernon ISD Supt. Dr. Kermit Ward, Vernon High School Coach Brock Payne, and Lion Tyce Payne represented VISD in the Vernon Chamber of Commerce All-School's Bacon Eating Contest. The contest featured teams consisting of a superintendent, coach and athlete from the three school districts in Wilbarger County vying for the bacon eating title. Harrold won the event.



Our Lady Lions travel to Henrietta today for a District 7-3A volleyball match with the Lady Cats. The sub-varsity games will start at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity game set to begin at 6 p.m. Good Luck Lady Lions!!!

VHS freshmen, sophomores and juniors will have the opportunity to retake their school picture on Friday, Oct. 24.

To students in Ms. Kristyna Butler's Principles of Arts, Audiovisual, Technologies & Communications classes went to Wichita Falls where they toured the KFDX TV station. The students were able to see all aspects of news production from the sound booth to the newsroom, and even sat in on a live news broadcast.

Today, the VHS CTE Program held a luncheon for its local business partners. The culinary arts students prepared the meal. CTE Department Leader Elly Gonzales welcomed everyone, while RaeAnn Stevenson, Director of Programs & Student Services, gave a presentation on what the CTE Program is all about, and teachers of some the CTE pathways talked about their pathway and the classes included in that pathway.










Thursday all VISD campuses will be operating on their early release schedules. Classes will be dismissed early and will not resume until Tuesday, Oct. 21, as VISD will be on a mini-Fall Break.

Our Lady Lions volleyball seniors and their parents were recognized in a ceremony prior to last night's varsity match against the Jacksboro Tigerettes. Senior members of the team are Jeana Martinez, Aaliyah Moralez, Klancy Sherrill, Mylee Greening, Kyndell Horn, and managers Jacie Parkhill and Brooklyn Harjo. We apologize for not having individual photos of the seniors and their parents. We had camera issues.


VISD will be on a mini-Fall Break Oct. 17-20. We will resume classes on Tuesday, Oct. 21. We hope all of our students, their families and our VISD family are all able to take a breath and recharge your batteries, as we head into the second half of the Fall Semester.

Our Vernon Lions tennis team saw their fall season come to an end a few minutes ago, as they fell to No. 2-ranked Canyon, 10-6, in the Class 4A Region 1 Team Tennis Playoff Quarterfinals.

We wrapped up the 7 doubles matches in our Class 4A Region 1 Team Tennis Quarterfinals Playoff match in Plainview and Vernon trails Canyon by 1, 4-3, going into the 12 singles matches. The first team to win a total of 10 matches wins the team match and advances to the Region 1 Tournament. Go Lions!!! We believe in you!!

Monday evening Jeanne Ballard, from the Vernon College Financial Aid Department, met with with VHS seniors and their parents, and explained what the FAFSA is, and provided other important information about applying for financial aid to attend college. FAFSA stands for Free Application For Federal Student Aid. It helps seniors to complete this form prior to applying for any scholarships or grants.

Our Lady Lions host the Jacksboro Tigerettes in District 7-3A volleyball action today at D.O. Fulton Gym. It is also Senior Recognition Night, with our Lady Lion seniors and parents being honored in a ceremony prior to the varsity match. Sub-varsity matches begin at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity match set to begin at 6 p.m. The Senior Recognition Ceremony will begin at approximately 5:45 p.m. Good luck Lady Lions!!

Our Vernon Lions tennis team is in Plainview this morning for a Class 4A Region 1 Team Tennis Quarterfinal Playoff match against Canyon. The winner advances to the 4A Region 1 Tournament in Abilene later this week. Good Luck Lions!!!

Last Friday the Lions sent their 2025 Homecoming crowd home happy after knocking of Boyd, 44-14, in a District 4-3A, D1 game. Earning Player of the Week honors for the game were: Jamari Chance, Offensive MVP & Ball Hawk; Adrain Felton, Defensive MVP; Mu Soe, Special Teams MVP; Ty Scott, Most Explosive; Thomas Gonzales, Lion Heart; Manny Ochoa, Boss Hog; Bowie Eakin, Big Stick; and Jacob Brown, Top Blocker. The Lions are now 6-1 for the year and 2-1 in district play. Vernon is open this Friday night. The Lions' next game is Oct. 24, in Bowie.
