Students in Mrs. Elly Gonzales' Money Matters classes were introduced to the real world this week, as Jennifer Trufan, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Wilbarger County Extension Agent for Family and Community Health, presented a three-day "It's Your Money/Welcome To The Real World" program. On the first day, students were able to explore possible careers and collect information on the availability of jobs, education needed, and average salary. On the last day, students selected their career, where they were going to work and live, and then determined if their salary would cover the cost of living. The second day of the program representatives from the Herring Bank explained the variety of bank accounts available, as well as how to write a check and how to cash a check.
Our VHS seniors definitely enjoyed their field trip to the Red River Valley Museum this morning. We appreciate and would like to thank the museum for hosting us.
Earlier this month, our VHS Key Club was named the Vernon Chamber of Commerce Member of the Month for February!! Accepting the honor from two Chamber Red Coats are Danielle Eneanya, Joseph Menendez-Garcia, Key Club President Carolina Horn, Aye Thuzar Khine, Key Club Sponsor Ms. Kayla Bennett, and Benjamin Armstrong.
Four members of our Lady Lions powerlifting team have been selected to the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association Academic All-State team!
Jasana Goodrum and Kellan Byars made the First Team, while Yuleyka Ramirez and manager Mckyla Myers made the Second Team.

Our Lions are on the road tonight in Iowa Park for a District 7-3A battle with the Hawks. The JV game will begin at 4 p.m., with the varsity game set to start at 7 p.m. Good luck Lions!!

Our Vernon Lady Lions -- Chloe Diekmann, Katie Caveness, Claire Mayo and Kyndell Horn -- claimed 2nd place at the Seymour Golf Tournament today, and Claire won the Girls Medalist competition. She shot a 77 to take first place. Great job Lady Lions!!

Our Lions captured 2nd place and a silver medal today in the Texas Tennis Coaches Association 3A & Under State Team Tennis Tournament!!! Vernon fell to Mason, 10-2, in the state final match. The Lions survived a thrilling, marathon semifinals match this morning to reach the finals. GREAT JOB LIONS!!!! WE'RE PROUD OF YOU!!!
Our Lions pulled out a thrilling 10-9 victory over Peaster in the semifinals of the Texas Tennis Coaches Association 3A & Under State Team Tennis Tournament earlier today and are headed to the finals!! Vernon will meet Mason in the state finals!!! GOOD LUCK LIONS!!!!
Our Lions tennis team defeated Kountze 10-0 in the quarterfinals of the Texas Tennis Coaches Association 3A & Under State Team Tennis Tournament. They will face Peaster tomorrow morning in the semifinals. Peaster defeated Reagan County 10-0 in their quarterfinal match. GOOD LUCK LIONS!!!
Our Lions tennis team picked up a 18-0 victory over Tatum this morning in the first round of the Texas Tennis Coaches Association 3A & Under State Team Tennis Tournament being played in Waco. Vernon will take on the winner of the Blanco-Kountze match in the quarterfinal round of the tournament this afternoon.
Two of our Lady Lions claimed Silver medals at the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting State Meet held Thursday in Edinburg. In the Unequipped Division, Kamryn Hall took second in the 242+ class and Daniella Eneanya was second in the 165 class. Also in the Unequipped Division, Olivia Carr finished fourth in the 220 class. In the Equipped Division, Nadia Gaines picked up a fourth place finish in the 242 class.
The Lady Lions also finished fourth in the team standings.

Vernon was scheduled to host Graham here Friday for varsity and JV non-district baseball games. However due to the extremely high wind that is being expected, the games have been postponed and will be played Saturday. The JV game will start at 12 p.m., with the varsity game scheduled for 2 p.m.

We have 6 Lady Lions -- Kamryn Hall, Danielle Eneanya, Olivia Carr, Erianna Chavez, Amari Garcia and Nadia Gaines -- competing in the State Powerlifting Tournament Thursday in Edinburg. There will be a sendoff for our state qualifiers tomorrow morning beginning at 8 a.m., at the field house and continuing as they are escorted down Wilbarger.
