Last Friday our Lions made it anything but a paradise for the No. 4-ranked Panthers. Vernon went toe-to-toe with Paradise before the Panthers scored the winning TD with 43 seconds left in the game, 29-22. Last Saturday before their district match with Holliday, the senior members of the VHS tennis team were recognized. Those seniors are Hunter Boatman, Arianna Castellanos, Jonathan Medina, Rodrigo Olivas, Mariana Ortega, and Nevan Schur. The Lions defeated Holliday, 18-1. The team hits the road today for their final district match of the season and one that will determine the district title. The Lions will travel to Burkburnett to square off against the Bulldogs. The match is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. Good luck Lions!! Go defend that district crown!!







Our Lady Lions are hosting the Lady Rabbits in a District 7-3A volleyball battle today at D.O. Fulton Gym. The sub-varsity matches will begin at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity match first serve set for 6 p.m. Good luck ladies!!!

Through the first six weeks of the school year, our student attendance has been great. We appreciate the parents for their support in having their children in the classroom.

Our VHS Students of the Month for September are Rueban Ochoa and Jeaney Menendez. Congratulations to these students!!

Earlier this month VHS held a Sub-Varsity Volleyball Tournament and both our 9th grade team and our JV team walked away with trophies. The 9th grade squad took second in their division, while the JV team won the consolation bracket of their division. We're proud of you!! Way to go!! Great job!!

Our Lions will host Holliday Saturday in a district team tennis match. It is also Senior Recognition Day, with ceremonies set to begin at 9:45 a.m. Tennis action will get underway at 10 a.m., at the Ruben Vargas Tennis Complex.

VISD will not hold classes Tuesday, Sept. 30. It is a scheduled Parent/Teacher Conference Day.

Representatives from colleges and universities from across the state were here this morning for our VHS College Fair. The event was held in the cafeteria, with senior and junior students having the opportunity to ask questions and collect information on various two and four-year institutions.

Today's dress up and spirit pep rally theme was "Whiteout". It was definitely a whiteout at VHS today!







Remember it is mini cheerleader night for those youngsters in kindergarten thru 5th grade who signed up for the clinic. Please be at the stadium by 6:45 tonight and gather with the cheerleaders on the east end of the track.

This morning, Lions Malakhi Propes-Scott, Mu Soe and Jamari Chance received Texas Farm Bureau Insurance of Vernon game balls from Amanda Lehman and Tiffany Rosalez for their performances in Vernon's victory last week against Richland. Malakhi was the Defensive MVP, Mu was the Special Teams MVP, and Jamari was the Offensive MVP.

Earlier this month Amanda Lehman and Tiffany Rosalez with Texas Farm Bureau Insurance in Vernon presented 3 Vernon Lions with game balls for their performance in the victory over City View. Receiving those game balls were Gavin Ranjel was the Special Teams MVP, Tyce Payne was the Offensive MVP, and Defensive MVP went to Malakhi Propes-Scott.

Vernon ISD is mailing student report cards for the 1st six weeks, and the mailing will include information the district is required to share with parents. Report cards will go in the mail today. Parents can currently view grades on Skyward.

Earlier this week, VHS learned our health occupation department was the Our Blood Institute High School Blood Drive Champion for the 2024-25 school year. The award comes with a $1,250 scholarship. The announcement was made at a high school workshop hosted by Our Blood Institute at the MSU Sikes Lake Center in Wichita Falls. Students in our Patient Care Technician class attended the workshop that featured engaging activities and educational sessions focused on the importance of blood donation and strategies to encourage others to donate. We would like to thank all of those who took time to donate at our blood drives last year. Winning this award is not possible without all of you, and we appreciate each and every one who donated.
